Henning to open region tournament at home on Friday against Kensington

The Henning North Stars dropped a pair of games last week to finish their season with a record of 5-11. They will host Kensington in the opening round of the Region 11C tournament on Friday night.

The Henning North Stars wrapped up their regular season with a pair of tough Hi-10 losses last weekend.
On Friday night the North Stars fell to Perham by a score of 4-3, before falling to Clarissa by a score of 6-1 on the road.
The North Stars are currently 5-11 overall and will host Kensington in the opening round of the Region 11C tournament,
The Region 11C tournament will kick off this weekend in both Henning and Deer Creek and feature teams from the Hi-10 and Resorters leagues.
Henning received the fifth seed from the Hi-10 and will host the fourth seeded Kensington team from the Resorters on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The winner will take on top seeded New York Mills on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Deer Creek.
Deer Creek received the third seed from the Hi-10 and will take on seventh seeded Dent from the Hi-10 on Friday night in Deer Creek at 7:30 p.m. The game will be followed by a fireworks show in honor of Deer Trails Day and the winner will take on Sauk Centre who was the second seed from the Resorters on Saturday at 4 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, Long Prairie who is the fifth seed from the Resorters will take on Hi-10 fourth seed Clarissa on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Dent. The winner of the game will take on the Resorters top seed Urbank on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Henning.
Ashby was the third seed from the Resorters and will take on Hi-10 sixth seed Vergas on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Detroit Lakes. The winner of the game will take on Hi-10 second seed Perham on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Henning.
Friday
A three-run top of the third inning knotted Henning’s game against Perham at 3-3, but a lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Pirates edged the North Stars 4-3.
Perham scored a single run in the first inning, before striking for a pair in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Henning went on a bit of a two out rally in the third inning when Owen Harig brought Ryan Despard across the plate with an RBI single, before Harig would score later in the inning on a passed ball. Nick Lindberg tied the game up at 3-3 when he hit an RBI double to center field.
Unfortunately, Perham scored a run on an error in the fifth inning to take the lead for good by a score of 4-3.
The North Stars were led offensively by Nick Lindberg who went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI, while he also took the loss in relief of Kuhn-Rice on the mound. Lindberg pitched five innings and gave up just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out eight hitters.
Saturday
Henning fell to Clarissa 6-1 in its regular season finale.
The lone run for the North Stars came on a Nick Lindberg RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 6-1.
Ryan Despard led the way offensively with two of Henning’s four hits in the game, while Erick Fick took the loss by going three innings and giving up just one hit and three runs of which two were earned.
