Henning to wrap up regular season on Saturday in Clarissa

With the regular season winding down, the Henning North Stars secured a pair of wins, before dropping two more games over the weekend at Tony Kawlewski Field in Henning.

 Garrett Kuhn-Rice pitched 5 2/3 innings against Vergas on Friday in Henning.

The North Stars kicked off their busy week with a 6-3 win over Dent on Wednesday, before edging the Vergas Loons by a score of 14-13 on Friday night. Over the weekend, the North Stars fell to Perham on Saturday night by a score of 6-2, before falling to Urbank on Sunday by a score of 11-0. 

The pair of wins improved Henning to 5-10 in the league and 3-9 in the Hi-10. 

Henning will wrap up its regular season this weekend as the North Stars travel to Perham on Friday night and Clarissa on Saturday. 

Wednesday

Owen Harig had a game to remember on Wednesday night as he went 3-4 with a pair of RBIs at the plate, while also striking out 11 batters and collecting a complete game win over the Dent Diamondhawks. Harig scattered just two hits, while walking five batters on his way to a 12-3 win.

After Dent took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Henning struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning when Ryan Despard scored on a wild pitch and Harig scored on an error to make the score 2-1 in favor of Henning.

The North Stars added three more runs on a two out rally in the bottom of the third inning when Jesse LaManna hit an RBI double, Harig hit an RBI single and Garrett Kuhn-Rice followed with an RBI single to make the score 5-1. 

The North Stars added another run in the seventh inning, before Dent scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning on a pair of wild pitches to make the score 6-3 in favor of Henning.

The North Stars out hit the Diamondhawks by a 12-2 margin with Harig leading the way with three hits. Kuhn-Rice, Nick Lindberg and Despard all chipped in with two hits in the win.

Friday

With a combined 35 hits and 27 runs, the Henning North Stars defeated the Vergas Loons in extra innings by a score of 14-13 on Friday night. 

Both teams traded runs throughout the contest with Vergas taking a 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Mike Maanum, Jacob Galbrecht and Dalton Smith led off the inning with three straight singles. Maanum scored on Smith’s RBI single and Aaron Felker loaded the bases with no outs when he reached on an error. Gage Post followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 4-3 in favor of Henning, before Jesse Klatt tied the game with an RBI single and Isaiah Maanum put the Loons in front 5-4 when Felker scored on a fielder’s choice to second base. Klatt would score when Blake Sonnenberg reached on an error to give Vergas a 6-4 lead. 

After Henning made the score 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nick Lindberg scored on an Austin Koep bases loaded walk, Vergas scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning on RBI singles by Galbrecht and Felker, as well as back-to-back bases loaded walks by Klatt and Maanum to give the Loons a 10-5 lead. 

Henning answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Ryan Despard, Jesse LaManna and Owen Harig led off the inning with three straight singles, including an RBI off the bat of Harig. Garrett Kuhn-Rice followed with a two-run double to make the score 10-8 in favor of Vergas heading into the top of the seventh inning.

Vergas added three more runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding 13-8 lead, before Henning scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and two runs thanks to a one out RBI double by Nick Lindberg and a two out RBI single by Stephen Lindberg with two strikes on him to bring Nick Lindberg across the plate and tie the game at 13-13. 

After a pair of scoreless innings in the 10th and 11th innings, Owen Harig connected with a two out double in the bottom of the 13th inning, before Rowan Finseth reached on an error that allowed Harig to score from second base and hand Henning a tough 14-13 win. 

Vergas was led offensively by Mike Maanum and Gage Post who each collected four hits in the win, while Jacob Galbrecht finished with three hits. Jesse Klatt, Aaron Felker and Dalton Smith all finished with a pair of hits in the loss.

Jacob Galbrecht took the loss on the mound as he pitched 2/3 inning and gave up one hit and one unearned run.

Henning was led by Owen Harig and Nick Lindberg who each finished with three hits in the win, while Garrett Kuhn-Rice, Stephen Lindberg, Jayden Lindberg and Jesse LaManna all finished with two hits.

Stephen Lindberg picked up the win in relief as he went five innings and gave up one hit and walked one batter, while striking out two.

Saturday

Nick Lindberg struck out 16 batters and gave up 11 hits, but took the loss on the mound in extra innings as the Henning North Stars fell to the Perham Pirates by a score of 6-2 in 10 innings on Saturday night. The North Stars tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Lindberg and Ayden Olson scored on back-to-back Perham errors with two outs. 

The game remained at 2-2 until the top of the 10th inning when the opening four Perham hitters reached base safely to hand them a 6-2 win in 10 innings. 

Henning was out hit by a 12-4 margin, but the North Stars were able to take advantage of six Perham errors in the game.

Sunday

Henning came out on the short end of a 11-0 loss to Urbank on Sunday afternoon. The game was the fourth of the week for Henning as they gear up for the region tournament that begins the weekend of July 25. 

Urbank posted five runs in the top of the third inning, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth inning to come away with the win.

Jayden Harig led the way offensively for Henning as he went 2-3 from the plate. 

Seth Sansness took the loss on the mound for Henning as he went three innings and gave up six hits, five earned runs and walked a pair of batters.
