The Henning North Stars broke an eight game losing streak and picked up a pair of wins last week against the Dent Diamondhawks by a score of 8-0 and the Midway Snurdbirds by a score of 3-2. The pair of wins improves the North Stars to 2-8 overall on the season and 1-7 in Hi-10 action.

This week the North Stars will host Clarissa on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., before hosting Sebeka on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Henning will go on a bit of a home stand over the next two weeks as they also have home games against Dent on July 9, Vergas on July 11, Perham on July 12 and Urbank on July 13.

Friday

Erick Fick had a game to remember on Friday night as the right hander gave up just three hits and a pair of walks, while striking out 18 Dent hitters on his way to securing Henning’s first win of the season by a score of 8-0.

Fick retired 18 of the 19 hitters he faced in order from two outs in the bottom of the second inning through two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, before giving up a two outs single. He then went on to retire the final four batters in order, including the final two Dent hitters by strike out to pick up the win.

Henning opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Garrett Kuhn-Rice hit an RBI single to bring Owen Harig across the plate. He would later score on a fielder’s choice to give Henning an early 2-0 lead. Henning scored another run in the second inning when Austin Koep scored on an error by the catcher, before the North Stars broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning with a big two out rally.

After Koep was hit with two outs to load up the bases, Nick Lindberg scored on a passed ball and Stephen Lindberg scored on an error to make the score 5-0 in favor of Henning. Jesse LaManna followed with an RBI double and Harig followed with a two-run double to make the score 8-0.

Henning outhit Dent by a 6-3 margin with Nick Lindberg leading the way with two hits and a pair of walks.

Less-than 24 hours after picking up their first win of the season, Henning improved to 2-8 overall with a 3-2 win over Midway on Saturday afternoon. Despite being outhit by Midway by a 12-4 margin, Henning was able to score a pair of runs in the top of the second inning even though they never recorded a hit.

Austin Koep and Jesse LaManna followed with back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to bring Lindberg and Harig across the plate and give Henning a 2-0 lead.

Midway scored single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 2-2, before Henning scored the game winning run in the top of the eighth inning when Stephen Lindberg hit an RBI single to right field to bring Nick Lindberg across the plate.
