Parade, live music set for Saturday in Henning

Henning School alumni will be taking a trip down memory lane on Saturday for the first all-school reunion in nearly a decade.

The all-school reunion committee has recently put the finishing touches on the one-day celebration that will include everything from live music, breakfast, a silent auction and a parade to cap off the night. Many of the events will be focused on Henning alumni, but non-Henning graduates will have the opportunity to be a part of the festive weekend in town. 

Deb Miller, who is one of the volunteers helping to organize the first all-school reunion since 2017, said activities like watching the parade and the live music at the Henning festival grounds later on June 21 will be open to the general public. 

The 2025 all-school of the activities will be held in one action-packed day, as opposed to spread out over several days like it had been in the past. The hope of cutting the all-school reunion to one formal day was to not only assist the massive amount of volunteers needed to organize the event, but to also allow alumni more flexibility to have individual class reunions or time with friends in a more relaxed setting. 

The day will get underway at 7 a.m. with registration at the Henning Event Center, before a breakfast gets underway from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the event center. A silent auction, which will include a number of locally donated items as well as some one-of-a-kind finds like the large billboard commemorating the 2019 Henning Class A state championship basketball team, will be up for bidding from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

A volleyball and basketball tournament, which will be open to the public to watch, will get underway at 9:30 a.m. at the school. Tours of Henning School will also be held from 9:30-11 a.m., before a bean bag tournament gets underway at 12:30 p.m. at the event center. An ice cream social will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. at the event center. 

Henning alumni will participate in the annual class parade that will roll through downtown Henning at 4:30 p.m., before an evening meal will be held once again at the event center. 

Music and social time will be open to the public will be held from 7:30-11 p.m. at the event center. Those who attend the live music and social time are encouraged to bring their own refreshments during the evening event, 

In addition to bringing past classes together for an all-school reunion, the event will also serve as a fundraiser for the H-545 Foundation. The all-school reunions are typically one of the biggest fundraisers for the foundation that continues to award scholarships to recent high school graduates and college students who graduated from Henning High School. The hope is that this year’s all-school reunion will once again help the H-545 Foundation raise money to continue its goal of providing necessary scholarships to assist Henning graduates as they further their education.
