For the first time in over 2 1/2 months, hair salons were allowed to open in Minnesota. After being closed by the state to help slow down the spread of the coronavirus, many salons are working overtime to catch up with clients who have been waiting months for that fresh haircut for summer.

The Henning community turned out in a big way on Sunday afternoon as nearly 100 people searched the woods near Holmgren Path and Willow Creek Assisted Living to search for a missing teen. Diane Tuma, age 19 of Henning, was last seen during the evening hours on Friday, June 5. By Sunday, emergency personnel and local volunteers searched for clues as to her whereabouts.

Local economy continues to grow—with new businesses and new construction, the Henning/Vining/Ottertail area seems to be ignoring economists who think the economy is slowing. Local realtors report brisk sales on homes in the area, with sales figures ahead of last year. Car and truck sales at area dealerships have remained steady as well. Dale Becker and Larry Birch of Birch Construction out of Deer Creek work on a new home and garage just off Highway 29.

Lead with Lund—Service, service, service…those are the words that define Randy Schoephoerster’s approach to the marine business at his new purchase, Hoot’s Marine in Ottertail. Randy and his wife Janet purchased Hoot’s effective June 1. They will hold a grand opening during the last week of July and will have the first on-the-water boat show of the 2001 Lund boat models on August 19 and 20 at The Pier.

What might have been a serious fire occurred Monday night at 10:15 o’clock when the shed and the contents to the rear of the Lew Asklund home was totally destroyed. When the alarm was turned in the building, and it was all a blaze, the local fire department turned out at once, and with the fire confined to the single building they were able eventual put it out.

A. C. Johnson says it’s a case of malicious blackmail. The case against A. C. Johnson, charged with arson in connection with the burning of a barn on the Barrett farm near or about by Leaf Lakes, came for trial in the district court in Fergus Falls. The selection of the jury occupies a short time. The case is concerning Mr. A. C. Johnson and Mr. Barrett along with others involved in possible insurance fraud.

The electric fire alarm called out the fire department at nine this morning to the house of Emil Ellingson. A chimney fire was responsible for the call, was out before the department reached. The calling out of the fire fighting force for a chimney fire is expensive and nine times out of ten it is unnecessary. When a chimney fire does occur in a house the occupants can save a lot of time and expense by using precaution and good judgement.
