Led by the Henning Fire Department and Henning Ambulance, members of the Henning High School Class of 2020 rolled through town on Monday night as part of a week of celebrations to honor the soon-to-be graduates. After a lengthy parade through town, the senior class headed to the football field and drove around the track as the lights were lit to honor the senior class. Among the students who participated in the parade was Kylee Mesker and Marcus Sigman. Graduation is set for Sunday in Henning at the Henning Festival Grounds.
The Henning School Board is hoping the third time is the charm in finding a new superintendent for the upcoming school year. As part of the contract with Ray Farwell of School Administrative Speciality Services, the district will hire Barry Olson to fill the superintendent position on an interim basis for one year. Olson is the retired superintendent at the Blooming Prairie School District, but has a cabin a short drive from Henning.
A former Henning resident is being called a hero for the life saving steps she took after witnessing a two-vehicle accident. Ashly Rasmussen, who is the daughter of Roger and Joy Rasmussen, was driving home to South Dakota from Henning recently when she witnessed an accident on the highway. Instead of simply calling 911 and waiting for authorities, Rasmussen sprung into action and checked on the victims.

World War II created memories that paved the way for a large donation to the Otter Tail County Chapter of the Salvation Army this week from the estate of Bud Johnson. Johnson was touched by the kindness of the Salvation Army to soldiers and wanted to repay the kindness with estate funds.
Rosella Lueders, 77, was found dead Thursday in Buchanan Lake in Ottertail. Lueders, apparently attempting to gather lake water for her plants, fell off the dock in the process. Authorities are not sure if Lueders drowned or died of another cause. Lueders was discovered by relatives who called Otter Tail County authorities around 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19. No foul play is suspected.
Memorial Day services will be held throughout the county on Monday, May 29, including one in Henning. The program, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Henning High School Gym, will be open to the public and is presented by the local VFW Auxiliary Ladies #7785.

Henning Graduates 58, for the class of 1975. Commencement will be Wednesday 8 p.m. Paster Owen E. Doely will give the commencement address.
Some new equipment improves Henning’s phone service. Henning residents who make long-distance calls will no longer have to give their number to an operator as the result of some recently designed improvements to improve phone service to local subscribers. Northwestern Bell Manager Stromberg estimated that the cost of the current service improvement and expansion project at $27,450. Western Electric Co. technicians have been installing additional dial-switching equipment, which is needed to meet growing communication needs of the Henning area. It should fully operating within a short time to provide improved long-distance services for customers with the new long distance calling.

Local baseball fans will be interested to learn that moving pictures of World Series ball games will be shown at the high school auditorium this Thursday evening at 7:30. According to Jerome Schempf, highlighted features of the ’45, ’47, and ’48 World Series baseball games will be shown.
Friday and Saturday evening showing at the Rex will be “That Midnight Kiss.” Sunday, Anne Baxter in “A Ticket to Tomahawk,” which is said to be a heap big laugh show.
Merlin Steuart reports seeing about one hundred walleyes going upstream, in the middle of the day, at Clitherall Bridge. He then proceeded to the Otter Tail River and caught six pike in a short time.
On Wednesday, May 17 there will be the opening dance of the new club six miles east of Henning. Music will be provided by Marlin Bendickson and his orchestra.

A special sale on all trimmed pattern and straight line hats next weekend.
Miss Olive Halvorson, eight grade. Student of this village, has received a certificate of honorable mention award and an engraved, distinguished medal for an essay on home lighting. This essay was done nationwide and over two million students participated across the states. Miss Halvorson’s essay was awarded for being in the top 45,000 in the nation nd the number one essay selected from the Fergus Falls area.
Saturday, May 23, the Rex Theatre will present “Women Proof,” and coming soon “Captain Blood,” which is always a good show.
