The Henning High School band and choir received some rave reviews during the annual large group contests over the past month.

The Henning High School band (above) and choir (below) fared well at the large group and solo/ensemble contests earlier this spring.
The Henning band received a superior rating from all three judges at the large group contest, which was held on March 12 in Long Prairie. The mallet percussion section also received an outstanding section award for their performance on “The Bonsai Tree.”
After performing both “The Bonsai Tree” by Julie Giroux and “Springtime Ride” by Erika Svanoe, first year band teacher Kaylin Bosworth was pleased with how well the group did at the large band contest.
“For the Henning High School Band, it has been about six or seven years since they have received a superior rating from all three judges at large group contest. They have received many overall Superior rankings in the past as well,” she said.
The Henning High School choir received a superior rating and an excellent rating at their large group and solo/ensemble contest held in Battle Lake on April 9. The group performed “Carnavalito” by Will Lopez and “The Prayer” by Teena Chinn. Bosworth said the Henning choir has received superior ratings at the large group ensemble for as long as both herself and choir teacher Naomi Horn can remember.
Individually, out of the 17 individuals that performed at solo and ensemble for the choir and band solos, Henning students received 15 superior ratings.
