After years of discussions and warnings that the high school gym floor was nearing its end of life, the Henning School Board could soon find itself moving forward with replacing the gym floor.
During its regularly scheduled meeting last Tuesday night, the Henning School Board heard that it has received one bid to replace the high school gym floor and was awaiting the final bid from a second company to see if the school district could afford to replace the aging gym floor. The high school gym floor dates back to the late 1950s and replacing it has been discussed a number of times over recent years.
In early 2024 the school district discussed replacing the gym floor once again and the estimated cost at that time was $180,000, which was an increase of about $50,000 from just three years prior. Unfortunately for the school district, the high school gym floor may not be able to be sanded and refinished anymore due to its age and condition.
One positive note the school board received last week was that there is no asbestos under the high school gym floor, which could save the school district quite a bit of money when it looks at replacing the floor itself. In addition to the high school gym floor, the school board will seek bids to sand and repaint the floor in the elementary gym as well.
