For many emergency personnel throughout Otter Tail County, it wasn’t just a matter of if, but when a confirmed case of coronavirus was reported in one of the largest county’s in the state. On Sunday morning, the Minnesota Department of Health confirmed the first positive text for coronavirus in Otter Tail County. But for a town that has rallied around one another through a number of tragedies in recent years, Henning Police and Fire Chief Mike Helle is hoping the community can pull together again through what could be a trying few weeks to months.

The Henning Business Professionals of America chapter had another successful state competition from March 5-7 even though it wasn’t anything close to normal. It was a great problem to have as the Henning BPA members had a number of members with conflicts due to the girls and boys basketball teams successes. The Henning BPA had individuals qualify for the National BPA contests that were scheduled to be held in Washington DC. Unfortunately, the National BPA contests have now been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those individuals were Ethan Severson, Rachel Borchardt, Katelyn Zillmer and Kevin Zillmer.

Henning Mayor David Holmgren said he has been interested in the formation of an area historical society for a long time but he doesn’t especially want to be the leader of the organization.  A building has been acquired for the headquarters for the area historical society and museum—the former American Legion building/Henning Township Hall on School Avenue off Second Street. A number of historical items have also been donated for the potential museum.

Parkers Prairie Fire Station was reduced to rubble early Sunday morning by an explosion, which allegedly occurred because a boy tampered with an LP gas valve. (Charges were pending at press time) The blast (heard 20 miles away) destroyed several fire trucks, did heavy damage to several buildings and broke windows in more distant buildings. No injuries were reported.

The patient was fumbling in his pocket. “You don’t need to pay me in advance,” said the dentist. “I’m not going to, I’m counting my money before you give me the gas,” said the patient.

Three boys were bragging about the prowess of their dads. The first boy said: “My dad writes a few lines, calls it a poem and gets $10 for it.” “My dad,” said the second, “makes some dots on a piece of paper, calls it a song, and gets $25 for it.” “That’s nothing,” spoke the third boy, “My father writes a sermon, gets in the pulpit, reads it and it takes four men to bring in the money.”

The saloon has not yet materialized in town.

An invitation has been given to Mr. Daly to come Bluff to discuss certain political questions with Mr. Hoskins, but we have not heard whether he will accept or not.

We understand that John and Scott Bruce killed nearly 50 rats one day last week, and it was not a good day for rats either.

The editor sends copies of this issue to a large number of persons that they may have a fair statement in the cases pending in court. He felt impelled to do this owning to the grossly false reports published at Fergus by the bankers’ Journal and sent to the city press.

Last week the editor sued a judge, under this statute and the Fergus Bank sheets set up a howl that would lead their readers to think something terrible was going to happen, while they add, that it is generally regarded that the Henning editor is insane. Several of the city dailies have reported this rot. The whole matter would be ag and considered a huge joke were it not put out in such shape that thousands of people will be deceived by the matter.
