Henning Lions Club member David Coates presented Henning Area Food Shelf manager Karen Stueve with the proceeds from a recent pancake breakfast in Henning. The breakfast raised $4,103 for the local food shelf.

On March 21, 2025, the Henning Lions Club presented funds to the Henning Community Food Shelf. This generous donation was the result of a successful pancake breakfast held on March 9 at the Henning Community Center.

Lion Doug Trana, the pancake event coordinator and head chef, along with other Lions members and seven junior choir members, served a delicious breakfast of biscuits and gravy, sausages, pancakes, French toast, coffee, orange juice, and milk. The event was open to all, with attendees contributing through freewill donations or direct donations to the food shelf. The Lions Club wanted to the Henning Community Center for providing the space for this wonderful event.

As a new member of the Henning Lions Club, Past District Governor Lion David Coates had the honor of presenting the funds to the Food Shelf Manager, Karen Stueve. Lion David, who recently moved to Henning from Iowa, handed over a check for $4,103, the largest amount ever raised by the Lions for the food shelf. The Lions Club extends heartfelt thanks to everyone in the community and surrounding areas who supported the pancake breakfast and made it a success. This contribution is a significant benefit to our community and the food shelf.

The Henning Lions Club has been serving the community for over 50 years, recently celebrating its 53rd anniversary on March 6, 2025. Under the leadership of current President Lion Jon Dryer, the club has been actively involved in various community activities, including the Henning Festival Days Food Stand, the Henning Car Show Food Stand, the Ballpark Fence Removal Project, KidSight Eye Exams for children, feeding Haunted House volunteers, the Lions Peace Poster Contest, the Santa Days Event, the Hot Shots Program at the high school, and working basketball concessions to raise money for Henning High School scholarships and other community projects.

The club’s most recent event, the pancake breakfast, was a great success in raising donations for the Henning Food Shelf. The Henning Lions Club meets on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Henning Landmark Center or Lion’s Shelter in Amundson Park. Those who are interested in joining the Lions can visit the Lions Clubs International website or talk to a local Lion.
