Voters from across the region turned out to vote at the local township elections during Minnesota Township Day last Tuesday for their annual elections. Though many races were uncontested, some townships saw an uptick in numbers with multiple candidates.
In Deer Creek Township, Cheri Kopveiler was re-elected for a two-year term as treasurer and William Grieger for a three-year term as supervisor. A total of eight voters turned out to the polls.
In Elmo Township, Alan Westad was elected as supervisor for a three-year term. Richard E. Brenner was elected as treasurer for a two-year term. A total of 17 voters turned out.
In Folden Township, the annual election of officers takes place in November, so newly appointed directors as of January 1 include Kenneth Vorderbruggen as treasurer and Dave Uhren as supervisor.
In Girard Township, Alvin Pederson was elected supervisor and Kathleen Trites was elected treasurer. Total voters were down about half from the last few years with 20 people.
In Henning Township, Jeff Arndt was elected as supervisor with 12 votes and Lois Buermann was elected with 12 votes.
In Leaf Lake Township, Paul Friedrich was re-elected as supervisor for a three-year term. Matt Thorson was re-elected as treasurer for a two-year term. Both candidates received 12 votes, which was on the low side for usual voter turnout in the township.
In Nidaros Township, Richard Trosdahl was elected supervisor and Judy Love was elected treasurer. Voter turnout was lower than usual with 11 voters.
In Otter Tail Township, David Hanson was elected as chairman and Tim Lueders was elected as treasurer. Voter turnout was normal at eight voters.
While several townships reported an average turnout, across the board, voting totals were down this year from the past several years.
