Five Otter Tail Central Bulldog wrestlers, including Hayden Hart, Laredo Bugbee, Zane Swanson, Brien Poser and Cian Buehler have advanced to the state wrestling tournament that will be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Just two years after accepting the position to be superintendent at Henning School, Mike Rowe will be leaving the school district at the end of June. Rowe recently accepted the position as superintendent at the Maple Lake School District in central Minnesota, pending the two sides coming together on a contract for the position. Prior to coming to Henning, Rowe served as the instructional coach and football coach at the Rocori.
The Henning City Council moved forward with several utility rate increases, as well as a financial planner to help with its utility rates last week. The council approved holding a work session to discuss its utility rate structure and need for future planning of projects during its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4. During its special city council meeting/work session last Wednesday, the council approved a 2 percent increase in its electric rates and a 1 percent increase in its sewer rates.

As fog rolled in on Tuesday morning and temperatures began to rise, many trees were coated with a crystallized coat of frost. Temperatures continued to rise through the day to an almost balmy 55 degrees.
Alan Roy Voge, 63, of Deer Creek, was pronounced dead after he was found in his fish house on East Leaf Lake on February 18, reported the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department. Voge’s wife became worried after he did not return from a fishing trip. She went to the lake and two other fishermen went out to Voge’s fish house to check on him. No official cause of death was available.

Participants in Sunday’s March of Dimes snowmobile marathon who received trophies following the benefit ride were: Walt Dilly, most mature male rider; Pauline Wallace, most mature female rider; Hubert Wallace, most pledges; Robbie Witt, youngest rider; Harriet Flom, special frozen fish award; and Dave Steve, hard-luck Harry trophy.
Intruders stole several items including a television set and caused damage to property within the clubhouse at the Oakwood Golf Course early Sunday morning. Thieves apparently entered the clubhouse by breaking a window sometime after the last employee left at 2 a.m. Sunday according to the report. Missing were two cases of wine and other bottles of liquor and a Pong machine.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gunderson of Vining were selected a this year’s dairy family in East Otter Tail County. They will receive their award at the Red River Valley Winter Shows in Crookston on Friday along with other families from the Winter Show area.

A few of the fire department members were called to the Frank Eastland home Sunday evening about 6 o’clock to put out a fire adjoining the chimney. About 9 a.m. that morning they had a chimney fire, but nothing serious. Upon returning home 5 o’clock they detected an odor in the house and upon investigating, a little smoke was seen coming out the roof by the chimney. The firemen were called and they found boards burning around the chimney, which they tore out. There was also a little water damage.
What could easily have been a serious accident occurred in the village Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the N.P. depot crossing when a locomotive snow plow struck a car. In the car, heading toward the junction, were three Vining people, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hoff and Ernest Read, who was driving. The driver applied his brakes in the nick-of-time thus avoiding a serious collision. As it was the plow, coming from the west, it picked the car up and set it down but only smashed the right wheel. There were no injuries.
A total of 162 people were at attendance at the 17th Annual Community Banquet at the school auditorium last Monday evening. The three-course dinner by the ladies’ aid of the United Lutheran church. Ralph Webster was toastmaster and introduced the various entertainment features and welcomed the guests. Gareld Flom, retiring president of the Commercial Club, told of the activities of this civic group in 1949 and passed the gavel to the 1950 chairman, Gust A. Smith. Mr. Smith asked for continued cooperation by the club and committees and gave assurance of increased activity for the coming year.

Richard Ed and Earnest Sydow, residing in Inman Township, whose place was raised by members of the sheriff’s force a few days ago, were brought in yesterday and arraigned in municipal court. They were charged with transporting and selling liquor and maintaining a nuisance. The were placed under bonds of $500 each, and their hearing is set for February 17. It is said that when the warrant was read to them, charging them with selling liquor to the justly celebrated “John Doe and Richard Roe,” the elder Sydow entered an emphatic denial. “I know everyone in the Henning neighborhood and there is no such persons there,” he declared.
You basketball fans! If you want to see a real fast game of basketball, take in the game at Bertha next Friday night. Henning High plays there. Cars, busses, and Ford will get you there. Register as before and ways and means to get you there will try to be provided. This is the last big and deciding game of the season and it will be a fast one. The boys appreciate your support. Lets go and help them put it over.
