Bella Olson goes up for two points during last week’s non-conference game against Ashby. The Hornets dropped the game and will open the playoffs this week against Rothsay.

The Henning girls basketball team finished up their regular season with a crazy four game week.

Unfortunately, the Hornets didn’t get any wins, but once again showed some good basketball at times, just not consistent enough to come out on top.  These losses put Henning’s final regular season record at 3-23 which of course is something head coach Mike Hepola said they aren’t happy with, but with this young inexperienced crew they will try and learn from everything and come back next year stronger and more determined than ever.

Monday at Brandon-Evansville 70-37 loss

Head coach Mike Hepola said he has to give Brandon-Evansville a bunch of credit in this one as they came out and showed a bunch of stuff Henning hadn’t seen on tape and they executed it well defensively. That led to way too many turnovers on our part and easy buckets for them. The Hornets went into halftime trailing 46-21. In the second half the Hornets really went cold shooting and ultimately lost by the final score of 70-37.

One statistical highlight was Henning’s free throw shooting as a team as they ended up 17-20 for 85 percent.

Individually the Hornets were led offensively by Callie Thompson with 10 points. Addison Bode just missed double figures with 8 points. Rounding out Henning’s scoring was Stella Iliff with 6 points, Lila Thorson 4, Tiffany Weber, Bella Olson, Abbigale Godding and Isabelle Godding all with 2 points each and Alivia Emter with 1 point. Emter led the team with 4 rebounds and Iliff led with 2 steals.

Prairie 61-25 loss

On Thursday Henning traveled to Parkers Prairie to take on a solid team that’s in their section. Friday at Battle

Lake 55-41 loss

On Friday night Henning traveled to Battle Lake to make up a game that was postponed due to weather earlier in the season.

The Hornets came out and took an early lead, but the theme of a cold-spell offensively continued as Henning couldn’t hit a shot and trailed 29-19 at halftime, only scoring one point the last several minutes of the half after having an 18-16 lead.

The beginning of the second half was tough as well and then the Hornets hit some shots but lost by the final score of 55-41.

Individually Henning was led offensively by Stella Iliff with 9 points followed by Lila Thorson and Callie Thompson both with 8 points.

With the partial stats (the stats are missing the final three minutes of the game except for points), the Hornets have Addison Bode leading the team with 6 rebounds, Iliff leading with 3 assists and also 2 steals.  Bode 7 points, Brynn Reinbold and Monica Hansen each with 3 points each, Bella Olson 2 points and Alivia Emter 1 point finished off the scoring.
