Lila Thorson drives to the basket during a recent home basketball game in Henning. She helped the team pick up their third win of the season on Friday night.
The Henning girls basketball team had their final two conference games this past week.
On Tuesday the Hornets hosted New York Mills and then on Friday they hosted Verndale. Henning split the games to finish the Conference season at 2-12. Before getting into the team results head coach Mike Hepola wanted to congratulate eighth grader Stella Iliff who won the State Hoop Shoot Championship on Saturday and will now compete in the Midwest Regional in Iowa.
Tuesday vs. New York Mills 63-31 loss
The New York Mills Eagles came to town with a very solid team that had just knocked off the conference champion Menahga so Henning knew they had their hands full. They are an experienced team with a good mixture of inside and outside offense and some great height which made rebounding really tough on the night.

Alivia Emter scored 17 points in Friday’s 72-24 win over the Verndale Pirates. The win was the third of the season for the young Hornet squad.
The first half ended with Henning trailing 34-14 and a huge factor in that was their ability to offensive rebound as they ended the night with a huge advantage grabbing 30 offensive rebounds. The final score ended up 63-31.
Individually the Hornets were led offensively by Alivia Emter and Addison Bode with seven points each. Bella Olson and Abbigale Godding each had five points while Lila Thorson four points and Callie Thompson three points rounded out Henning’s scoring. Thompson led the team with four rebounds and Bode led with two steals.
Individual stats
Callie Thompson 3 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Alivia Emter 7 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist
Brynn Reinbold 1 assist
Tiffany Weber 2 rebounds
Addison Bode 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals
Bella Olson 5 points, 1 rebound
Abbigale Godding 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal
Lila Thorson 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal
Stella Iliff 3 rebounds, 1 assist
Friday vs.
Verndale 72-24 win
On Friday night the Hornets hosted Verndale and they had by far their best offensive night of the year as the basket seemed bigger and Henning hit both 3-point shots and 2-point shots at a high pace and scored 72 points without pressing at all.
Alivia Emter led the team with 17 points. Callie Thompson and Addison Bode joined her in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Stella Iliff scored nine points, Bella Olson seven, Lila Thorson six, Tiffany Weber and Isabelle Godding four points each and Abbigale Godding three points.
Thompson had a great all-around game as she finished with a team-high seven rebounds along with three assists tying her with Thorson and Emter for the team lead. Emter led the team with 4 steals.
Once again a great team effort and nice win to end the conference season.
This week is the final regular-season week and it’s a crazy one as Henning has four games with two of them make-up games from postponed games due to weather earlier in the season.
The Hornets travel to Brandon-Evansville on Monday, then host Ashby on Tuesday, then go to Parkers Prairie on Thursday and play at Battle Lake at 4:30 p.m. varsity only on Friday.
