“We will remember him best as friend.” Several of Lowell Dreyer’s friends take this sentiment to heart each time they pass the permanent memorial on Highway 108 in Ottertail dedicated to Lowell’s memory. Next Saturday, February 5th, in the second year of the event, they will remember him again as they take part in the Second Annual Lowell Dreyer Memorial Scholarship snowmobile run. All proceeds are donated to the scholarship fund.

The St. Paul House in Ottertail has a long history, dating back 115 years to its construction at what is now the intersection of Highways 108 and 78. When John McNellis, a stage driver on the Brandon to Ottertail City route, purchased most of the townsite, he built the hotel. Ottertail was a booming city then, with a population of 1,200. When the town began to decline, most of the city reverted back to farmland and only the St. Paul House was left to remind travelers of former times.
