Hornets are currently 1-9 on the season, to host LPA on Thursday night

The Henning girls basketball team had two games last week and while Tuesday’s game didn’t go as they would have liked, they were able to go and get their first victory of the season at Verndale on Thursday.

Head coach Mike Hepola said he is very proud of the way the girl’s bounced back on Thursday after a disappointing game on Tuesday and with some tough games coming up he hopes it gives the girl’s the confidence and drive to continue to work and get better. Since Henning has such a young team they are pretty much the least experienced team in each and every game, but also gives the team a great opportunity to learn each night and get better for the future.

On Tuesday night the Hornets fell to Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal by a score of 67-30. The Titans took a 30-16 lead at halftime and held on for the non-conference win.

The Hornets were led by Lila Thorson with nine points, while Callie Thompson scored seven. Alivia Emter and Stella Iliff  each scored three points, while Brynn Reinbold, Tiffany Weber, Addison Bode and Abbigale Godding each scored two points apiece.

On Thursday the Hornets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Verndale Pirates by a score of 51-40. The Hornets led by a score of 31-22 at halftime and shot 45.9 percent from the floor. They went 13-22 from inside the 3-point line and held a 37-28 advantage in rebounding.

The Hornets were led offensively by Addison Bode who went 7-8 from the floor to finish with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds. Alivia Emter also reached double figures with 11 points, while Lila Thorson scored eight points.

Bella Olson scored four points, Abbigale Godding scored three, while Stella Iliff, Callie Thompson and Brynn Reinbold each scored two points.

The Hornets are currently 1-9 on the season and 1-5 in the Park Region Conference. They will play at New York Mills on Tuesday night, before hosting Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday. On Monday the Hornets will travel to Battle Lake to take on the 1-8 Battlers in non-conference action.
