Henning High School senior Teigan Bjerke etched his name in Henning history on Thursday night as he scored his 1,000th career point. Bjerke tied fellow senior Logan Kostelecky with a team-high 17 points as the third ranked Hornets defeated Bertha-Hewitt by a score of 61-29.
“Congrats to Teigan Bjerke on eclipsing the 1,000 point milestone! Teigan is a team leader and a tremendous role model in our school and community,” said head coach Randy Misegades.
The Hornets took an early 37-15 lead and outscored the Bears 24-14 down the stretch to come away with their first conference win of the season.
The Hornets held the Bears to just 27 percent shooting from the floor and forced 25 turnovers in the game.
Despite the lopsided victory, Misegades said the Hornets once again started slow before finding their rhythm midway through the first half.
“We started slow again, but found some energy midway through the first half. The game didn’t have a lot of flow and we struggled to get going offensively as a result. A lot of guys got some quality varsity minutes for the first time,” he said.
Bjerke scored 17 points on his historic night as he went 7-10 from the field and puled down a team-high seven rebounds. Kostelecky went 3-9 shooting and finished with 17 points, while Noah Umland also reached double figures with 10 points in the win.
Also reaching the scoring column was Eli Reinbold with nine points, Dawson Misegades with seven points and Wiederich with one point.
