The Henning Hornet girls basketball team traveled up to Walker to take on a team that made it to the state tournament last season and has everyone back last Tuesday night.  The Hornets knew they would have their hands full as Walker-Hackensack-Akeley is a very talented, experienced, quick and tall, pretty good combination of qualities.

WHA started off really fast and went right at Henning and held a 49-11 lead into halftime. As the Hornets headed into the locker room at halftime the coaches stressed to the girls that they can certainly learn a lot from playing a team like this and one thing they can control against each and every team is their effort.   The second half saw the girls settle down a little bit and get a little more going, before ultimately losing by the final score of 74-24. It was a game in which the coaches were able to try a bunch of different line-ups and combinations and hope that will help the team going forward.

Individually, Henning was led offensively by Lila Thorson with 8 points. Addison Bode, Bella Olson and Abbigale Godding all chipped in 4 points, while Stella Iliff 2 points and Alivia Emter and Isabelle Godding with 1 point each rounded out our scoring. Bode led the team with 5 rebounds and Callie Thompson led the team with 2 steals.

WHA has a really good team and definitely a team head coach Mike Hepola said wants his young squad to learn from.  The loss drops Henning’s season record to 0-2 and they have a three game week coming up as they travel to Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday, then host two really good Class AA teams with Frazee coming in on Thursday and then Menahga on Friday.
