Hermanson elected as Henning Mayor

Jesse Hermanson defeated Sarah Booker in the race for Henning Mayor on Tuesday night.
As of Wednesday morning, Hermanson received 262 votes, or 61.2 percent of the vote, compared to 151 votes or 35.2 percent of the vote for Booker. Hermanson, who is a Henning native, is the son of longtime city council member and former mayor the late Jim Hermanson. He has served the past two years as a member of the Henning City Council. With his election, a seat will become vacant on the Henning City Council.
In addition to Hermanson, Scott Hart and Travis Nelson were re-elected to the Henning City Council. Hart received 355 votes and Nelson received 208 votes for the two city council positions. Challenger Cally Anderson received 158 votes.
In the city of Ottertail, Ron Grobeck was overwhelmingly re-elected to another two year term as Ottertail Mayor. Grobeck received 258 votes, which was 54.9 percent of the vote. William Layman received 112 votes for mayor and current city councilwoman Janet Hill received 100 votes for the position.
Michael Windey received 358 votes, or 88.4 percent of the vote for one of two open city council positions. A second city council position will be elected by write-in candidate.
In an election that featured all write-in votes, incumbent mayor Troy Beiswinger received 31 write-in votes to be re-elected mayor for another two years in the City of Deer Creek. A total of 23 people received a write-in vote for mayor, but only Beiswinger received more-than three votes.
Danny Hendershot was re-elected to another four-year term on the Deer Creek City Council after leading the way with 29 write-in votes. Nicole Helmrichs received the second most votes to also be elected to the city council with 12 votes. A total of 23 people received at least one vote to serve on the Deer Creek City Council.
In Vining, Lynda Rubink received 30 votes, or 90.9 percent of the vote, to be re-elected as mayor. Jon Stueve and Peter Gaustad received 26 and 25 votes respectively to be elected to the two city council positions. Kimberly Gilbertsen was elected as city treasurer with 29 of the 32 votes cast for the position.
Another tightly contested race was the one for Henning School Board. Rodney Thalmann was re-elected to another four year term on the school board with 1,023 votes, which was 23.37 percent of the vote. Kim Haugen was also re-elected with 974 votes, or 22.25 percent of the vote. Challenger Casey Johnson will fill the third open position on the school board after he received 931 votes, or 21.27 percent of the vote. Kathryn Haberer and Stephen Springer came up just short in their bid to get elected to the school board after receiving 824 and 588 votes respectively.
