Hornets end season with a record of 10-20 overall

Callie Thompson and Myiesha Antoni attempt to block a kill during last week’s game against Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.

The Henning Hornets volleyball season has come to an end.

The Hornets ended the season with an overall 10-20 record and a 4-3 record in the Park Region Conference. The Hornets started Subsection 6A with a 3-0 win over Norman County East Ulen-Hitterdal and then were defeated by Hillcrest 3-0.

Alivia Emter sets the ball at the net during last week’s sub section opener.

Against NCEU-H the Hornets started off a little tight, making a few too many errors, but they settled in midway through the first set and controlled the game the rest of the night.

The Hornets were led by Alivia Emter and Myiesha Antoni. Each had 11 kills. Emter also had 6 ace sevens, and 10 assists on the night. Antoni had 4 4 solo blocks and 2 assist blocks.

The Hornets served well on the night, Addison Bode (16/16), Emmalynn Bergstrom (15/15) and Grace Jacobs (14/14) all served 100 percent. Bode led the team in digs with 12 and Cambrie Johnson led the team in assists with 14.

In their game against Hillcrest the Hornets were on defense from the start of the game. Hillcrest is a very well rounded team, they pass well and all their hitters swing aggressively all the time.

Addison Bode spikes the ball past a would-be Titan blocker last week.

Head coach Kristy Finck said she was very proud of the girls on Wednesday. They did not quit and fought until the end. Henning does not graduate anyone, so hopefully the girls take this season and learn what it is going to take to get to be a team like Hillcrest and other top teams in our section and conference.

Finck said the team will have to get bigger, faster and stronger. They will also need to fine tune their overall skills and get mental toughness.

The Hornets were led by Myiesha Antoni, she had 8 kills and 3 solo blocks. Bella Olson had 4 kills and Alivia Emter had 3. Serving 100 percent on the night were Emter (10/10), Emmalynn Bergstom (8(8), Lillian Moench (6/6) and Olson (5/5). Emter led the team in assists with 9 and Cambrie Johnson had 7. Moench led the team in digs with 12.

Finck said it’s hard to believe that the season is already over. She would like to say thank you to the girls for their hard work this season, also to the parents for all of your support. A huge thank-you to Allison Christianson for being our bus driver, bookkeeper and line judge throughout this season, you are greatly appreciated. Thank you to our fans who continually support the Hornets. Finck said a special thank you to her assistant coaches for their time and commitment into helping the program grow.
