One injured in residential fire near BL

One person was injured Oct. 14 in a farm accident near Vining in southeastern Otter Tail County. The accident took place at 11:48 a.m.

Sheriff deputies said that Daryl Baardsen, 76, was pulling a tractor with a pickup when the accident took place. He was air-lifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with what was described as “crushing injuries.”

Deputies added that he was conscious and alert at the time of transport. Assisting sheriff deputies were Vining Rescue, Henning Ambulance, Ringdahl Ambulance and Henning Police.

One injury in residential fire

One person sustained smoke inhalation during a residential fire on Oct. 13 in Everts Township near Battle Lake. The injury, at Turner Drive near the southwest side of Otter Tail Lake, was not believed to be life threatening. Treatment took place at an area hospital.

The fire was contained to the porch area, and the cause of the fire was believed to be related to a wood stove on a porch. The occupants of the home were evacuating when the call to first responders took place at 9:14 p.m.

Sheriff deputies were assisted by the Battle Lake Fire Department, Underwood Fire Department and Ringdahl Ambulance.

Thefts reported

Sheriff deputies, on Oct. 12, reported the theft of a pontoon trailer at Poss Beach Road near Lizzie Lake, north of Pelican Rapids. The value was estimated at close to $2,500. 

Another theft was reported on Oct. 13 in Rothsay. Several tools were taken from a garage in back of the residence. The location was on North Center Street.

Welding rods were reported as stolen just west of Wall Lake, near Highway 210, between Underwood and Fergus Falls. The value was estimated as close to $35. The call came in to sheriff deputies on Oct. 13.
