If there was a bit of a glow coming from the end of the elementary hallway on Tuesday afternoon it was for a good reason. The Henning Shining Lights 4-H group helped third graders at Henning School to construct their own light, using nothing but a watch battery and some wires. The project was in honor of National 4-H week, and gave members of the local 4-H the opportunity to teach some of their peers and family members.

A new professional services building will soon spring up from the ground along Bayview Road in Ottertail.  During its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday night, the Ottertail City Council hosted a pair of public hearings related to a new building that was being proposed in town. In order to make that building come to fruition the city council had to approve changing the property from residential to commercial, as well as a variance to deviate from the 25 percent impervious surface requirement in the shore land area. The new building would be the home to Lakeview Estate and Trust Law.

Playing their poorest game of the season, the Henning football team practically relinquished all title aspiration when they were defeated at New York Mills by a score of 33-27, Friday. This Wednesday Henning entertains Battle Lake here for homecoming game at 2 o’clock.

President Harry Truman has sent to the senate for the approval the nomination of Howard I Trana for the postmaster position in Henning. R. T. Nelson will continue to be acting postmaster until the official transfer is made.

There are still plenty of good neighbors left folks! Last Friday 17 Leaf Lake farmers fueled up their tractors and took off for Otto Haugen farm to plow 40 acres of land in about two hours time. Mr. Haugen has lost considerable time in his farm this fall with his wife in the University hospital with polio.

49,500 walleye pike fingerlings were taken from the Ottertail pond by state crews last week and were placed in lakes in that vicinity. 35,000 were planted in Otter Yail Lake, 8,000 in Buchanan, 4,500 in Pickerel, and 2,000 in Long. An attempt will be made later to get more fingerling in this pond.

Rev. Waite’s Wife Killed—Word reached here Friday that Mrs. S. Waite, wife of the local M. E. pastor here and at Deer Creek, had been killed in an auto accident near Crookston the evening before.

At about four in the afternoon, within two miles of their destination, Miss Olson driving the machine, suddenly went over the grade and turned over twice. Rev. Waite had been at the wheel, but Miss Olson who is a fair driver, had replaced him just before the accident. It appears that in slowing down and turning out for a larger truck, the wheel hit some soft sand, throwing the car out of control for an instant. Mrs. Waite was found badly injured and taken to the hospital where she died two hours later. The attending physician stated that heart trouble, from which she suffered, resulting from the shock, was the cause of death. The others, although severely shaken, were not injured.

Notice To Poultry Raisers—We will load a car of live poultry at Henning from Oct. 20-24. We pay top market prices every day and urge you to bring your surplus chickens now as the prices will be lower later, when turkeys, geese and ducks are wanted for the holiday trade. Present prices are high for this time of the year. Your poultry will bring you more money now than later.

Chas. E. Davis, Henning
