Sheriff deputies, on Oct. 1, reported a traffic accident near Parkers Prairie at the intersection of Parkers Road and 108th Street, south of town. The accident took place at 11:08 a.m.

“It appears that the passenger side of a semi tractor trailer went onto the soft shoulder of the gravel road, causing the vehicle to enter the east ditch,” said a sheriff deputy. “The vehicle leaned to the right enough to cause it to roll over onto the right side.”

The driver, 73-year-old Dick Lee Miller of Garfield, was trapped inside and required extrication from the vehicle. He was transported by EMS to Douglas County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Scam averted

A county resident, on Sept. 30, did not send any money in a scam attempt. She did, however, divulge her Social Security number and is working with federal authorities.

The scammer had requested that she send $3,000 in Bitcoin to claim a prize of $100,000 in cash.

Authorities warn consumers that only scammers demand payment in cryptocurrency. No legitimate business is going to demand you send cryptocurrency in advance.
