Brynn Reinbold and Myiesha Antoni attempt to block a spike during a recent game in Henning.

The Henning Hornets had a tough week of volleyball as they played against some very strong opponents last week. Henning did not pick up any wins, but they gained experience, which they hope will help us finish strong in their last few regular season games and into the post-season playoffs.

The Hornets fell to a tough Underwood Rockets team 1-3 on Tuesday night. Then on Thursday they fell to a very talented Wadena-Deer Creek team by a score of 3-0.

On Saturday, the Hornets participated at the Perham Tournament and came home 0-4. Head coach Kristy Finck said it was a disappointing day as the Hornets played right with their competition, but they just could not finish. In the first game the Hornets fell to Barnesville 0-2 (17-25, 22-25), the next game they faced Pierz and lost 0-2 (23-25, 30-32), the third game was against Fosston, and Henning lost 0-2 (21-25, 22-25).

In the final game Henning faced Walker-Hackensack-Akley and lost 1-2 (25-22, 23-25, 13-15). Every game was there for Henning to win, but they just did not have the grit needed to finish. If and when the team can get this will to not lose they are going to be a team that other teams are afraid of. Finck said the Hornets have the ability to do great things, but they just need to play better as a whole unit and cut back on the unforced errors.

Against Underwood, the Hornets had 37 kills as a team, served 98 percent with 7 aces, serve-received 82 percent to the target, and were able to end the match with 6 solo blocks.

Team stats in the Wadena-Deer Creek game were: 20 kills, 91 percent serving with 2 aces, 83 percent serve-receive to target and 5 solo blocks.

Perham tournament stats were fairly good considering the outcome of the day. The Hornets hit .120 and had 96 kills on the day. We served 95 percent with 6 aces. The Hornets were a little low on their serve-receive as it was only 76 percent to target, and we ended the day with 10 solo blocks.  Henninghad four girls with 20 or more kills on the day. Addison Bode led the team with 23, Myiesha Antoni had 21, and Alivia Emter and Bella Olson each had 20. Emter had a great day serving as she was 31/31 with 2 aces. Antoni led the team with 7 solo blocks. Cambrie Johnson led the team in assists with 81 and Bode led in digs with 46.

The Hornets only have one game this coming week. They will travel to Battle Lake on Tuesday for a non-conference match-up. The Hornets are currently 8-17 overall and 3-3 in the Park Region Conference.
