Multiple agencies in Otter Tail County will participate in a mass casualty training drill at Perham High School and Perham Health on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Perham Health, Perham Area EMS, Perham Police and Fire, Otter Tail County Emergency Management, and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office will conduct the drill, with a significant presence of emergency response vehicles on and around the high school and hospital.

While streets will be open during the drill, public safety officials request that people stay clear of the area if possible so that emergency responders and healthcare professionals can focus on their training.

“Conducting mass casualty drills is not just a routine exercise, it’s a vital step in ensuring the safety and security of our community,” said Becca Huebsch, Perham Health EMS and Emergency Preparedness Director. “These drills help us identify and address any potential gaps in our response plans, improve coordination among various agencies, and ensure that our personnel are well-prepared and know their roles and responsibilities. By simulating high-pressure situations, we are enhancing our collective ability to save lives and manage chaos effectively when a real emergency strikes.”

Perham Health is a Minnesota Department of Health Level 4 Trauma hospital. The Minnesota Department of Health Statewide Trauma System is in support of the drill.

This mass casualty training drill underscores the commitment of Otter Tail County’s emergency services partners to safeguarding our community and being ready for any emergency.
