The Deer Creek Shockers are just one win away from advancing to the Class C state baseball tournament after splitting a pair of games last weekend.

The third seeded Shockers opened the weekend with a 10-6 win over second seeded Midway, before falling to top seeded New York Mills on Sunday by a score of 6-0. With the loss, the Shockers drop to the elimination bracket where they will need to defeat the winner of Friday night’s game between Midway and Perham on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Perham. The winner of Saturday’s game will earn the second spot in state for the region.

If the Shockers win Saturday’s game, they will earn a rematch against NY Mills at 4 p.m. on Saturday for the opportunity to advance to state as region champions. If Deer Creek wins both of their games on Saturday they will force a winner-take-all championship game on Sunday against NY Mills at 1 p.m. in Perham for the Region 14C championship.

Lane Dilly took the loss on the mound for the Shockers on Sunday afternoon in Perham.

The Class C state baseball tournament is set for Aug 16-18, Aug. 23-25 and Aug. 30 to Sept. 2 in Jordan, Belle Plaine and Green Isle. The champion out of Region 14C will receive a bye in the opening round of state, while the runner up will need to play a pig tail game during the opening weekend.
