The inaugural season of the Henning North Stars came to a close on Saturday with a 5-0 loss to the Nimrod Gnats. The loss came in the elimination bracket of the Region 14C tournament.

Nimrod jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI double with one out, but from there Erick Fick shut the Gnats down for six straight innings on the mound to keep the North Stars in the game. Henning’s first hit of the game came in the top of the fourth inning when Nick Lindberg hit a single to lead off the inning and advanced to second base on a Fick walk with two outs. Both runners were stranded on base to end the inning. The North Stars also had a chance to take the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Jacob Lindberg was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a double by Garrett Kuhn-Rice. Both runners were stranded in scoring position to end the inning.

Nimrod broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth inning when they scored a pair of runs on a two-out single and scored two more runs on an error and a passed ball to take a 5-0 lead.

Henning was unable to crack the scoreboard in the top of the ninth inning to fall 5-0.

Fick took the loss on the mound as he went seven innings and gave up two hits and two earned runs. He also struck out five hitters. Nick Lindberg pitched an inning of relief and gave up two hits, three runs and struck out a pair of hitters.

The loss ends Henning’s season with a record of 5-19 overall.
