If running in water through brush that is head high in the middle of the night sounds like a good time then you might be one of the select few that are up to the Wilderman Challenge. The extreme Ironman course is set in the back woods of Walhalla, N.D., and abuts the Canadian border. Of course the close-to 24 hour race isn’t meant for everyone, but it is meant for the adventure seeking few that have already conquered one of the most physically demanding races in an Ironman or are simply looking for something unique. Among the recent participants was Ben Geyer of rural Henning.

Joy Greenwaldt, who has enjoyed taking pictures as a young child, started her photography business Joyous Creations Photography in 2014. While her business is just five years old, that love of capturing a perfect moment in time through a picture was something Greenwaldt still enjoys today.

Jared Olson, the current owner of Olson Tire and Oil, has been running the business for the past 15 years.  Olson went to M-State in Detroit Lakes to learn Auto Body and mechanics after high school. Back in 2001 when his parents, Bryon and Stacey Olson first purchased the building, located at 101 East Main Street in Ottertail, Jared said he and his brother Jesse were eager to try their hands at working at the shop as well. Jesse operated the shop for a few years before Jared took over the lead role as head mechanic in 2005.

Plans are underway for this year’s OtterFest family-friendly community celebration in Ottertail. The event, sponsored by the Ottertail Business Association (OBA), is set for Saturday, Aug. 14. The day of fun will be kicked off, of course, with the Ottertail Rod & Gun Club’s annual Demo Derby, set for 7 p.m. Friday, August 13.

The Henning EAA Chapter’s annual fly-in breakfast was another success, with “perfect” weather overhead, EAA member and pilot Grant Smith reported. Over 300 breakfasts were served and more than 50 plane rides were taken at the event held Saturday, which attracted some 56 planes from Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. Among the planes was a WWII vintage AT6, recently taken out of service in South Africa, and a YAK-15 Polish plane.

Twenty members of the Whisker Club from Henning will be marching in the Wadena parade on Thursday afternoon.

It was a hot day Sunday, but the usually reliable Henning pitchers were not “hot” as Frazee took the game there by a basketball score of 21-15. As a matter of fact, outside of being at bat, the entire Henning team was off as they made a total of eight errors.

Children will be admitted free each day of the coming Minnesota State Fair accompanied by an adult. In past years it was just opening day, but Secretary-general manager of the fair announced that this year the bars have been let down and children under 12 will be admitted free at all times.

Three emeralds of considerable value and four 22 caliber cartridge shells have been found in the gizzard of a hen bought in the market at Minneapolis.

A painting of the wife of David Garrick, which was twice sold in New York City at less than $100 has been identified as a Gainbourgh, worth $20,000.

A party of Indians from the Osage reservation in Oklahoma arrived in the latter part of the past week in some of the best automobiles made in America and leased four cottages at Floyd Lake for a fortnight’s outing. The party bought themselves some of the best outing equipment available and are apparently having the times of their lives. These Indians are not the “starving” class for they belong to that section where crude oil is pouring out from them a stream of golden dollars. -Detroit Record

The bride Etta Louisa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Thompson and the groom Mr. Colbjorn Colbjornson. The ceremony was at the bride’s home which was prettily decorated for the occasion and the Rev. A La Fricazee at City Hotels Shipments of frogs from this point this season has been enormous. From one to three wagon loads have been shipped to Minneapolis, St. Paul and Chicago every day since the ice went out of the lakes. The shipments are light now, but from the first of September until the lakes freeze up lumpfish will be a burden to the baggagemen of the Great Northern Railway.
