A year from now, Henning High School and the community will celebrate with an all-school reunion. In preparation for that event, a volunteer committee at Henning Landmark Center is working on the compilation of a Henning History Book.

The committee has had two work meetings and is now asking the community for help in form of old historical photos and family information as it pertains to the founding of Henning. This book will encompass an in depth study of Henning’s history from its first days in the 1870s when the community was known as Pease Prairie

The book will detail information about Henning’s founders and provide information on early Henning businesses. The book will explore many historical topics including the history of Henning’s churches, the arrival of two railroads, schools, civic organizations, community and high school sports and the role and involvement of Henning residents in two world wars, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Volunteers are also welcome to join the committee. Anyone wishing more information about the history project or to submit photos and family histories should contact Dan Broten at 548-5760 or email information to henning.landmark@arvig.net. Photos and stories may also be sent by mail to Henning Landmark Center, P.O. Box 341, Henning, MN 56551.

All photo submissions will be returned to the owner. Digital image submissions will also be welcome at the above email address.

The next meeting of the Henning History Book committee is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23 at 1 p.m. at Landmark Center, 415 Douglas Ave. The public is welcome.
