Area corn growers are watching their crops proceed under mostly favorable conditions these days, which so far have brought timely sun and rain, but few storms locally. Corn in local fields was indeed knee-high by the Fourth of July. Drying winds early this week are expected to give way to another slug of moisture-laden air from the south, which is expected to clear in time for the weekend. Or so says the weather forecasters.
With the annual Phelps Mill Festival taking center stage this weekend, everyone is reminded that the Henning Area Festival will be held the following weekend, July 16-18. That is good for America…”
“Buddy” John Poulson, six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Poulson, broke both bones of his right arm on July 4. Following a picnic dinner on the Poulson lawn the lad, with other children, was enjoying themselves jumping from the table. They enjoyed themselves at this for some time without apparently any danger. When the accident happened the body evidently fell and got his arm double in such a way as to fracture it.

The Laverne Herald, of which State Senator H. J. Miller is the editor and proprietor, has led the Republican criticism against Governor Lind for his veto of the Miller bill, being Senate file No. 24, to make findings of fact in proceedings before the Railroad and Warehouse Commission official court records in such cases. In a recent issue Senator Miller charged unworthy motives on the part of the governor and that he had been governed in his action by certain railway influence. Thereupon governor Lind addressed to Senator Miller an explicit denial and demand for retraction of his charged coupled with a full statement regarding the bill and reason for the veto.
