0Assistant Solid Waste Director is committed to public service
Otter Tail County has announced the hiring of Scott Bjerke as the new Assistant Solid Waste Director. Bjerke, an educator with extensive experience, brings a wealth of leadership and community engagement skills to his new role.
Bjerke grew up in Moorhead, Minn. and attended Concordia College, where he played baseball for the Cobbers. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education and later a master’s degree in educational leadership, further enhancing his expertise in leading teams and fostering growth.
Bjerke’s dedication to education led him to roles as a teacher and coach at Kennedy Secondary School in Fergus Falls, followed by a tenure as a middle school principal in Perham. He lives on a lake near Perham with his wife and son. He has two grown children and two grandchildren with one grandchild due soon.
Bjerke’s commitment to public service extends beyond the classroom. He served as a water patrol deputy with Otter Tail County’s Sheriff’s Office for four summers, fostering valuable connections within the organization and the broader community. Drawing upon his diverse experiences, Bjerke expressed a desire to explore new avenues beyond the education sector, leading him to his current role in waste management.
“I wanted to do something completely different,” said Bjerke. “I have been in education for 33 years and wanted to be refreshed and learn something completely new and beyond school. This job fits that interest.”
In his new role, Bjerke aims to leverage his leadership to assist in leading waste management initiatives and foster greater community engagement. Recognizing the importance of building relationships, Bjerke intends to serve as the “face of the department,” advocating for education, outreach, and collaboration with the public.
Chris McConn, Solid Waste Director, expressed enthusiasm for Bjerke’s appointment.
“Scott’s passion for learning, leadership and community engagement makes him an ideal addition to our team. We look forward to leveraging his expertise to drive impactful waste management initiatives and build stronger connections with the community,” he said.
Otter Tail County welcomes Scott Bjerke as its Assistant Solid Waste Director and looks forward to his positive impact on the organization and the community at large.
