Colby Shertler slides in safely into third base ahead of a throw in Friday’s 10-2 win over Henning in Deer Creek.

The Deer Creek Shockers defeated the Henning North Stars by a score of 10-2 on Friday night. 

The North Stars struck first as Nick Lindberg and Jayden Harig hit back-to-back RBI singles to make the game 2-0 early on. 

Travis George pitched a complete game for Deer Creek on Friday night.

The Shockers wasted little time in tying up the game as Colby Shertler reached on a bunt single and Matt Steege walked to put runners on first and second base with no outs. Travis George followed with a two-run single and Gannon George later made the score 3-2 when he was hit with the bases loaded and two outs. Carl Colburn followed with a bases loaded walk to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Shockers. 

Deer Creek made the score 5-2 when George connected with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning and broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth inning when Gannon George scored on a wild pitch and Mike Blom hit a two-run single with two outs to make the score 10-2 in favor of Deer Creek. 

Nick Lindberg led the way offensively for the North Stars as he went 3-4 with an RBI, while Harig and Jake Trosdahl each picked up a pair of hits. 

Travis George went 4-5 with four RBIs, while he also secured the complete game win as he went nine innings and gave up eight hits, two runs and 12 strike outs.

The North Stars fell to 2-2 on the season on Sunday afternoon as Henning lost to Clarissa by a score of 15-3.

Despite the lopsided final score, the game was just 6-0 heading into the top of the eighth inning, before the Flyers connected for nine runs to end the game by the 10-run rule after the North Stars were only able to get three runs in the bottom half of the inning. 

Down 15-0 and with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Austin Koep hit an RBI single and Owen Lindberg followed with a single of his own to load up the bases. Jesse LaManna was hit by a pitch to bring across another run, before Stephen Lindberg hit a line drive to center field to make the score 15-3 in favor of Clarissa. Unfortunately, the next hitter was retired on a fielder’s choice to end the game by a score of 15-3. 

Stephen Lindberg, Trosdahl, Koep and Owen Lindberg led the way offensively with two hits apiece, while Nick Trosdahl took the loss on the mound as he went seven innings and gave up 15 hits,10 earned runs and struck out five hitters.
