For the better part of a decade, visitors at Henning School have been walking with their nose in the air and their eyes in the sky. Of course, when colorful ceiling tiles sprinkle the hallways of the school it can almost be difficult to watch where one is walking, in order to catch a glimpse at the unique and one-of-a-kind pictures above.

The ceiling tile project began 12 years ago when former superintendent Dean Krogstad shared information regarding a ceiling tile painting project students completed at his previous school with former art teacher Terry Oscarson. The Henning art teacher picked up on the project and installed approximately 40 painted ceiling tiles at the school during the 2012-13 school year.

For much of the past decade, art students at Henning School have been painting decorative ceiling tiles that have been placed throughout the hallways at the school. The ceiling tiles included everything from famous quotes to scenes from movies, or even inspiration that affected their lives.

Unfortunately, due to this summer’s school building project, the ceiling tiles will need to be taken down at the school.

Henning Superintendent Melissa Sparks said the ceiling tiles that will be utilized when the HVAC and maintenance project is completed later this summer, will be a different size than the ones currently in place. As a result, Sparks said the school district is asking that anyone who would like to keep the ceiling tile they painted to let the school know by Friday, May 17. The ceiling tiles will be given to each student who participated in the project, if they would like to keep it, as long as they inform the district office by Friday of their intentions.

Ceiling tiles that are not claimed by Friday will be properly disposed of as part of the remodeling and maintenance project.

The Henning School office phone number is (218) 583-2927.
