A first half of great shots and bounces going Henning’s way came to an end in the final 18 minutes of play on Wednesday night as the Henning Hornets fell to Ada-Borup West by a score of 69-55. The loss ended the fourth ranked Hornets season with a record of 26-3 overall as they advanced to their third straight sub section title game.

“It is always difficult to see a season come to an end. We played a really solid first half. We had a number of guys make shots and we were solid defensively,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “The second half was a completely different story. We couldn’t score and couldn’t get consistent defensive stops.”

Kale Misegades wrapped up his sophomore season with 25 points in Wednesday’s loss to Ada-Borup West.

The Hornets held a 33-23 lead at halftime, but a pair of quick 3-pointers by Ada-Borup West to start the second half cut that lead to just 4 points. The Cougars were able to find success driving to the basket during the second half and ended up shooting 56 percent from the field and were 21-32 from inside the 3-point line. Henning, on the other hand, shot just 36 percent from the field and went 11-30 from behind the 3-point line in the loss.

“Ada-Borup West was the better team tonight. They outplayed us and deserved to win,” said Misegades.

Sophomore Kale Misegades led the way offensively with 25 points, while junior Teigan Bjerke finished with 14 points and Logan Kostelecky hit three 3-pointers to finish the night with 9 points. In addition to finishing as the sub section runner ups, the Hornets won their fifth Park Region Conference championship in the past seven years and have a accumulated a 54-5 record over the past two seasons.

With the Henning fans cheering in the background, the Henning defense crashes down to the paint during Wednesday’s sub section championship game.

“I am proud of our team and the season we had. We won another conference championship and we were the runner-up in the sub-section. We finished our season 26-3 overall,” said Misegades.

With team chock full of underclassmen, the Hornets will return a bulk of their line up next season. Henning had just one senior on their team with a majority of their team this past season being made up of sophomores and juniors.

Misegades said the Hornets will miss senior Lane Dilly next season who has been a key contributor for Henning for a number of seasons.

“I want to thank our lone senior, Lane Dilly. He’s a tough, hard-nosed kid who always got the most out of his ability,” said Misegades.

Ada-Borup West went on to fall to West Central Area in the Section 6A championship game on Friday night by a score of 60-56 as the Knights advanced to the Class A state basketball tournament.
