A tough second period proved to be too much to overcome for Otter Tail Central senior wrestler Kale Rich at the state wrestling tournament on Friday morning.

Rich, who wrapped up his senior year of wrestling with a record of 24-13 overall, was matched up with Lamarcus Osborne of Minneapolis North in the opening round of the 285 lbs. state tournament.

After a scoreless first period, Osborne chose the down position in the second period and earned a quick escape, before taking down Rich and earning 3 near fall points. Rich earned an escape, before once again being taken down with 49 seconds remaining in the period. Rich earned another escape as time was expiring to head into the third period down 8-2.

Rich started in the down position and earned an escape 27 seconds into the period, but could get no closer as he fell to Osborne by an 8-3 decision.

Osborne lost his next match against Treston Nichols of Badger/Greenbush-Middle River to end the Underwood senior’s season at the state tournament. Osborne would eventually finish fifth in the state.

Rich was the lone Bulldog to advance to state this year on a team full of underclassmen.
