The fourth ranked Henning Hornets won their 16th straight game in dramatic fashion on Saturday.

Tied 67-67 with Underwood at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Kale Misegades was able to steal the ball and pass it up court to a wide open Teigan Bjerke as time expired to lift the Hornets over an upset-minded Underwood Rocket team by a score of 69-67. The win was the 16th straight for the Hornets who improved to 23-2 on the season.

In addition to Saturday’s game, Henning wrapped up its second straight 14-0 conference schedule to capture their fifth conference title in the past seven seasons.

This week the Hornets have just one game on their schedule as they will host Battle Lake on Friday night as part of the 110 year Henning basketball alumni celebration.

The Henning Hornets wrapped up a second straight 14-0 Park Region Conference season with an 84-33 win over Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday night. The Hornets were once again efficient on the offensive end of the court as they shot 57 percent from the field and were an impressive 10-18 from behind the 3-point line.

Henning led 46-13 at the half as five players scored at least 12 points in the dominant conference win. As well as the team played on offense, they did just as well on the defensive end of the court as they held the Bears to just 30 percent shooting from the floor and forced 21 turnovers.

“We did a nice job competing on the defensive end tonight and we had really nice balance again offensively,” said head coach Randy Misegades.

The Hornets were led offensively by Kale Misegades who went 8-12 from the floor to finish with 22 points. Meanwhile, Teigan Bjerke, Noah Umland, Lane Dilly and Logan Kostelecky each scored 12 points in the win.

A late stop with just seconds remaining on the clock turned what could have been a defeat into a thrilling victory on Saturday at Target Center. Late in the second half and with the game tied at 67-67, Henning forced an Underwood Rocket turnover and Kale Misegades quickly passed the ball down the court to a wide open Teigan Bjerke under the basket
as the time expired to lift the Hornets to a 69-67 non-conference win.

“We were fortunate to win today. Underwood is a good team and they were really efficient in the second half offensively,” said head coach Randy Misegades.

After a first half where the Hornets were efficient on both the offensive and defensive end of the court, Underwood clawed back into the game and traded the lead back and forth with Henning throughout much of the latter part of the second half. The Hornets led at halftime by a score of 38-25.

“We were awful defensively in the second half. But we got one big stop on the last possession with the game tied and converted a layup on the other end to pull out the win,” said Misegades.

The Hornets were led offensively by the duo of Kale Misegades and Teigan Bjerke as Misegades shot 12-21 from the floor to finish with 21 points, while Bjerke scored 21 points and finished with 6 rebounds.

Lane Dilly scored 6 points to go along with 12 rebounds, while Logan Kostelecky scored 5 points, Ryan Despard scored 3 points and Dawson Misegades scored 2 points in the win.
