Henning to host Battle Lake in regular season finale on Friday night

Henning wrapped up its Park Region Conference games last week as they traveled to Verndale on Tuesday and hosted Bertha-Hewitt on Friday in a special game that was held during the school day in front of the student body.

Unfortunately, neither game went in Henning’s favor, but the girls played hard and gave themselves a chance in both of the games. The two losses dropped the season overall record to 9-13 and 5-9 in the Park Region Conference, which put the Hornets in fifth place in the 8-team league.

The Hornets will wrap up their regular season this week as they will travel to Underwood on Tuesday, before hosting Parkers Prairie on Thursday and Battle Lake on Friday night for parents and senior night.

Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Verndale 54-44 loss

Henning headed into Verndale knowing they would have to play a really solid game to beat Verndale who was in third place in the conference and has one of their better teams that they’ve had in a long time.

Unfortunately, the Hornets got off to a really cold start shooting the ball and trailed 25-15 at halftime. The second half Henning shot better, but couldn’t get enough stops after cutting their lead to 5 at one point and tied them in that half 29-29 to lose by the final score of 54-44.  

Individually Henning was led offensively by Alivia Gunderson with 19 points. Joining her in double figures was Lyvia Misegades with 18 points and she had another double-double as she led the team with 18 rebounds.  Ella Missling’s 7 points rounded out Henning’s scoring. Lila Thorson led the team with 4 assists and Misegades led the team with 2 steals.

Friday, Feb. 16 vs. Bertha-Hewitt 64-58 loss in overtime

On Friday the Hornets hosted Bertha-Hewitt in a day game in front of the student body and it was a packed house and a loud-environment that was a blast for the girls to play in front of.  The Hornets were able to beat Bertha-Hewitt by 1 point the first time the two teams played so the team knew it would be a tough game once again. 

Henning fell behind by 5 at halftime 26-21, then used a combination of better shooting and some good defense to outscore them 30-25 in the second half, but missed a shot on their last possession and the game went into overtime.  

Bertha-Hewitt hit a couple tough shots in overtime and ultimately came away with the 64-58 win.

The Hornets were once again were led offensively by their three senior starters with Ella Missling scoring a career high 19 points, including five 3-point shots, Lyvia Misegades 19 points and Alivia Gunderson with 12 points.  Rounding out the scoring was Lila Thorson with 6 points and Addison Bode with 2 points.  

Misegades once again had a double-double with a team high 12 rebounds and also led in assists with 3 and tied for the team lead in steals with 5, which Gunderson also had.
