The fifth ranked Henning Hornets pushed their winning streak to 14 games thanks to a pair of wins last week against Parkers Prairie and Verndale. The Hornets are currently 21-2 overall and 13-0 in the Park Region Conference. Their lone losses came to Morris and Worthington in the Fergus Falls tournament over the Christmas/New Years holiday break.

This week the Hornets will host Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday night, before traveling to Target Center on Saturday to take on the Underwood Rockets.

Next week the Hornets will wrap up their regular season against Battle Lake on March 1 when they host the Battlers as part of the alumni basketball night.

Henning is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the 2019 state championship team and all former players, parents, fans, coaches, managers and cheerleaders are invited to participate in the festivities.

The night will also honor the 110th year of Henning basketball in the community. Prior to the state of the varsity game past alumni will be honored and a social open to the public will be hosted at Oakwood Supper Club following the basketball game.

Tuesday

In a rivalry game that is always a tough test for both teams, the Henning Hornets traveled to Parkers Prairie on Tuesday night to take on the Panthers in non-conference action. The Hornets came out of the gates a bit slow on the offensive end of the court and actually trailed 32-26 at halftime, before outscoring the Panthers by a commanding 50-17 margin in the second half to come away with a 76-49 win.

“We didn’t come ready to play and found ourselves trailing at the half. Give Parkers Prairie credit as they shot the ball very well in the first half, including a 3/4 court bucket before the halftime horn. On the flip side, we did a lot of standing around on both ends and didn’t find any rhythm,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “In the second half we hit a couple quick 3’s to tie the game. And then we settled in from there, out scoring the Panthers 50-17 in the second half.”

The Hornets were led offensively by the duo of Kale Misegades and Teigan Bjerke who combined to score 60 of Henning’s 76 points. Misegades scored 36 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Bjerke scored 24 points and finished with 5 assists and 6 rebounds.

Noah Umland scored 5 points, Logan Kostelecky scored 3 points, Dawson Misegades scored 1 point, while Lane Dilly scored 1 point, but led the team with 8 assists and 14 rebounds.

Henning scored early and often as they secured a 78-49 win over Verndale on Thursday night. The Hornets took a 43-27 lead at halftime against an improving Verndale Pirate squad.

Logan Kostelecky scored 12 points and Noah Umland also reached double figures with 11 points.
