Record temperatures have done a number on ice conditions on local lakes across the region this winter.

With temperatures resembling April, as opposed to the heart of winter, the Henning Rod and Gun has been forced to cancel the annual Ice Fishing Derby on Middle Leaf Lake. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday.

This is the second time in the past three years that the Henning Rod and Gun Club has been forced to cancel the ice fishing derby. Two years ago the rod and gun club held a winter celebration at the Henning Event Center, but this time around the group has opted not to hold such an event due to the slushy and wet conditions at the festival grounds.

Mike Helle, who is a member of the Henning Rod and Gun Club, said the raffle will still be held and tickets are available at a variety of businesses throughout the region for $2 apiece.
