The Henning girls basketball team only ended up playing one game last week due to a cancellation of Friday’s game against Frazee due to illnesses in their school.

Thursday, Jan. 25 at Pillager 57-49 lost

On Thursday night Henning traveled to Pillager for a boys/girls doubleheader. The Hornets came out and really struggled shooting and Pillager hit shots for an early lead. The girls kept battling and Henning got it within 2 points a few times, but could never get over the hump. Henning trailed 33-26 at halftime, before losing by the final score of 57-49.

Offensively, Henning’s biggest weakness on the evening was their shooting as the Hornets shot only 22 percent. The Hornets did a good job of rebounding some of the misses grabbing 22 offensive rebounds, but didn’t convert enough of them.  Defensively Henning didn’t do a good job of stopping the Huskies and that ultimately led to the loss.

Individually the Hornets were led by Alivia Gunderson and Lyvia Misegades with 17 points each. Ella Missling 6 points, Lila Thorson 5 points and Monica Hansen 4 points rounded out the scoring.

Misegades had another double-double with 18 rebounds, while Gunderson just missed with 8 rebounds. They were Henning’s leaders in steals as well with Misegades getting 5 and Gunderson with 3. Those two, along with Lila Thorson, led the team with 2 assists each.

The loss drops Henning’s season record to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the Park Region Conference.

This week the Hornets have three games as they host Sebeka on Tuesday, travel to Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday (day game) and then host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Saturday in a day game.
