Winter driving safety tips

One person was injured in a traffic accident on Jan. 10 near the intersection of Highways 67 and 14, southwest of New York Mills. The single-vehicle accident took place at 7:19 a.m.

Sheriff deputies said the driver, southbound on Highway 67, lost control of her vehicle which left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver sustained hip pain and was taken to the hospital in Perham.

Do not use cruise control on icy roads. Equip your vehicle with a scraper/brush, small shovel, jumper cables, tow chain and a bag of sand or cat litter for tire traction.

Also include blankets, heavy boots, warm clothing and flashlights. Store high-energy foods such as chocolate or energy bars.
