This past week the varsity girls basketball team hosted two Park Region Conference games and unfortunately weren’t able to come away with either win.

Henning really had a tough beginning to this game both offensively and defensively as they trailed 21-4 at one point, before going into halftime down 27-10.  Offensively the Hornets played a little better in the second half, but still couldn’t get enough stops before ultimately losing by the final score of 54-39.

Offensively the Hornets were led by Lyvia Misegades with 23 points.  Alivia Gunderson scored 8 points, while Callie Thompson, Tiffany Weber, Ella Missling and Lila Thorson all finished with 2 points each.

Missling led the team with 7 rebounds while Gunderson and Thorson led the team with 4 assists each. Misegades led the team with 3 steals.

Friday, Jan. 5 vs. New York Mills 55-46 lost

On Friday the Hornets hosted conference and section opponent New York Mills in a game that they knew would be a battle.  Henning once again struggled to get things going, but fought back to trail 29-28 at halftime.

In the second half the Hornets were able to take a 5 point lead at one point, but did a terrible job of keeping them off the offensive glass as they grabbed 19 offensive rebounds including 13 by one player and many of them led to 2 points. As a result, Henning fell by the final score of 55-46.

As coaches and players the Hornets definitely need to shore up their defense and rebounding, but also need to get some other girls going offensively as they had only 3 girls score in this game with Lyvia Misegades leading the way with 32 points, Alivia Gunderson joined her in double figures with 12 points and Ella Missling chipped in 2 points. Misegades led the team with 11 rebounds, Missling led with 4 assists and Gunderson led with 5 steals.

The two losses drops Henning’s overall record to 5-6 and 2-3 in the Park Region Conference.  The team knew they had a lot to learn this season and will continue to work as coaches and players to try and get things tightened up both offensively and defensively and hopefully start putting together good games on both ends of the court.
