In a battle between state ranked teams, the sixth ranked Henning Hornets fell to Class AA 10th ranked Morris/Chokio-Alberta by a score of 46-39 in the opening round of the Fergus Falls Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
The Hornets, who entered the game with a perfect 7-0 record, struggled to find their shot from the field as they went just 16-51 from the floor and 5-14 from the free throw line.
“This was a great test for us against a quality 2A school. Our guys competed hard and had a chance, but we simply didn’t make shots,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “We struggled from the field and struggled even more from the free throw line. We were really stagnant on offense…too much dribbling and not enough player and ball movement.”
The Hornets trailed 22-18 at halftime and stayed within a possession or two for much of the second half, but ultimately, came up just short in a 46-39 loss to the Tigers.
The Hornets were led by Kale Misegades who scored 18 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Noah Ulmand scored 8 points and Teigan Bjerke added 7 points in the game.
With the loss the Hornets took on Class AAA Worthington in the third place game of the tournament on Friday. Results from the game were not available at the time of press.
