Sheriff deputies, on Nov. 14, reported non-life-threatening injuries to two people during a traffic accident in rural Vegas. The accident took place shortly before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 60 and South Rose Lake Road.

This was a one-vehicle accident, according to sheriff deputies. The vehicle was towed from the scene of the accident.

A look at MN Sheriff’s Association

Formed in 1885, the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association includes Otter Tail County and the other 86 counties in Minnesota.

These sheriff departments represent a diversity of regions, from agricultural and wilderness, to metropolitan. Each county sheriff department has its own unique situation, duties and responsibilities.

“And yet,” says Otter Tail County Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons, “many of the problems that sheriff departments encounter across the state of Minnesota are common to all departments.”

The office of county sheriff remains an elected office, and is nonpartisan. County sheriffs and staff members say that if their offices were political they would lose a certain degree of autonomy.
