0The Henning Community Food Shelf is already getting ready to involve the community in providing a special Thanksgiving Day meal for its clients in November.
During the last two weeks in October, in conjunction with the Henning Elementary students’ “Stuff the Turkey” food drive for non-perishable Thanksgiving dinner items at school, the food shelf will also have a “Turkey Drop,” asking the community for donated frozen turkeys to help fill the freezer prior to the holiday.
While those wishing to donate a 10-15-pound turkey can call food shelf director Karen Stueve at 583-2136 to arrange to drop it off at the food shelf any day through October 31, there will also be an opportunity to bring it to the Henning Haunted House the last weekend of their event.
On Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28 only, the Haunted House, a big supporter of community projects since it started in 2012, will graciously offer a $5 discount on admission to those who bring a frozen turkey to donate to the food shelf, which will be open from 6:30-9:30 p.m. to receive them those two days. Both are located in the old city hall building on Second Street. A box will also be available for non-perishable food donations.
