The Henning Hornets went 1-1 in last week’s games to improve to 6-7 on the season. On Tuesday, the Hornets hosted the Barnsville Trojans and on Thursday they traveled to Wadena to take on the Wolverines.
In Tuesday’s game, the Hornets played solid volleyball most of the night. Henning’s passing was good, which helped the team offensively. They also served aggressively, causing Barnesville’s serve receive to struggle at times.
The Hornet hitters did a good job finding holes and Henning’s unforced errors were the lowest they have been in a while.
Lyvia Misegades also set the pace as she had 21 kills on the night and distributed the ball to the hitters when she was in the back row. Ella Missling had a nice night as she passed the ball well and served aggressively.
Bella Olson played with confidence and had some nice attacks on the outside. Alivia Gunderson played solid for Henning on the right side, as she was second in kills with 7. Myiesha Antoni and Emmalyn Berstrom did a nice job for Henning in the middle, they were able to get some block touches and find the middle of the court on Barnsville’s side.
Lillian Moench, Lila Thorson and Cambrie Johnson did a solid job serving and digging in the back row. Johnson led the team with 19 set assists.
On Thursday, the Hornets travel to Wadena to take on the Wolverines, who are the top team in the Park Region Conference and number one in their section in Class AA. The Hornets started off sets 1 and 2 solid, pushing WDC to take some time outs and change their game strategies, however Henning got stuck in a couple rotations and they capitalized on their solid serves and pushed out the game.
In game three the Hornets struggled from the start.
“I was disappointed how our enthusiasm in game one and two just disappeared. Some of our demeanors were poor and the energy was just not there,” said head coach Kristy Finck. “In order to compete with any team we have to keep positive and have energy throughout the whole match. We need to work on being more aggressive if we want to get things going in our offense, and we also need to communicate better and give our 100 percent effort at all times if we want to keep improving each match.”
The thing that really hurt Henning on Thursday was its serve receive and blocking.
Lyvia Misegades led the team in kills with 10 and had a nice night digging in the right back. Bella Olson played an all around good game. She hit over .600 (5 kills) on the night and had some nice digs in the left front. Lillian Moench had some great digs, she led the team with 15. Myeisha Antoni did a nice job finding some holes on the court as she had 6 kills.
The Hornets have two home games next week. Tuesday, they host Battle Lake and Thursday they host Sebeka.
