A Henning-native has been honored as the 2018 trial judge of the year. Judge Lois Lang, who is a 1972 graduate of Henning High School, was presented the Minnesota Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates trial judge of the year earlier this summer in St. Paul, Minn. The award was given to Lang for her excellence in the conduct of jury trials, enduring professionalism and commitment to civility.
There is perhaps no piece of grass or branch on a bush that David Holmgren hasn’t touched and cultivated at the Landmark Center over the past 13 years. After all, since the facility has been developed into a community building on the corner of 2nd St and Douglas Ave. in downtown Henning, Holmgren has been the only landscaper and gardener the facility has ever known. Holmgren is retiring as head landscaper at the end of the year.

Although there will be no Pier Lodge and Convention Center built in Otter Tail Township this year—and perhaps never—there still kindles the notion that the same group of investors may take on construction of scaled-down version as a clubhouse and lodging facility at the Thumper Pond 18-hole golf course proposed for construction in Ottertail. “We’re interested in doing something,” said Pier owner-investor Landis Weaver. He said he will attend a Thursday evening of this week in which Thumper Pond representative Verle Blaha and Ottertail city officials are to discuss the finer points of what benefits tax increment financing of the projects might be realized by the developers and city taxpayers.
With the archery deer hunting season now open, things are getting a little dicier out in the woods for those creatures who might otherwise only run the risk of causing severe body damage to an unsuspecting motorist’s automobile. Seventeen-year-old archer Mark Oscarson bagged a young buck over the opener weekend just south of Henning. It was Oscarson’s first buck and Henning Meats first deer to be processed since opening for business this summer.
