Hornets fall to Bears 3-1 in PRC action

The Henning volleyball team improved to 4-4 on the season after last weeks games.
On Thursday, the Hornets hosted a scrappy Bertha-Hewitt team and lost 1-3. On Saturday, they traveled to Benson, where they went 2-1 for the day. In pool play they Hornets defeated Rothsay 2-0 and then fell to Westbrook-Walnut Grove 0-2. They then played the second place team (Ortonville) from Pool B, and defeated them 2-0.
On Thursday’s match against Bertha-Hewitt the Hornets played extremely flat and had way too many unforced errors to get anything going. The Bears did a good job capitalizing on Henning’s mistakes and just outplayed the Hornets in every area of the game.
Head coachy Kristy Finck said it was a disappointing night, as the Hornets did not play to their potential, but the team will need to move forward and not look back. She said it is time for girls to start stepping up and play at a higher level of intensity. The Hornets are almost midway through the season, and if they improve each night they can still be contenders come play-off time.
Against Bertha-Hewitt, the Hornets hit negative, we had 27 errors just from attacking. Serving was a struggle as well as the Hornets missed big serves at crucial times in the game. Henning’s serve receive was what really hurt the team. Henning had 11 serve receive errors and many that were not playable by the setter.
“This is definitely our weakness that we need to improve on, I feel if we can improve on this, our setting will be better, which will help our hitting,” said Finck. “We did show life in the 3 match, but it was short lived.”
Lyvia Misegades led the team in kills with 8, Alivia Gunderson had 6, Ella Missling had 5 and Alivia Emter added 3. Emter, Gunderson and Lila Thorson all served 100 percent for the night. Lillian Moench and Missling led in digs with 17 and 16. Misegades led in assists with 14 and blocks with 7.
At the Benson Tournament the Hornets were led by Lyvia Misegades with 22 kills. She also had 12 set assists, 4 ace serves, 13 digs and 7 blocks. Next in kills was Alivia Gunderson with 8, Emmalyn Bergstrom with 6 and Brynn Reinbold with 5. Cambrie Johnson led the team in set assists with 23 and 6 ace serves. Lillian Moench led the team in digs with 20.
The Hornets are on the road this week, on Tuesday, they travel to Wheaton, Thursday they travel to Menahga and on Saturday they play in the Parkers Prairie Tournament.
