One person injured in crash near Perham

Sheriff deputies, on Aug. 22, reported the loss of a house as the result of a fire, north of Battle Lake and near Balmoral Golf Course. Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:40 a.m.

Firefighters from the town of Ottertail and from Battle Lake extinguished the fire but not before the dwelling was a total loss. There were no injuries. Listed on the sheriff report as the owner of the dwelling was Jordan Woessner.

Cause of the fire was being investigated by the county sheriff office and Minnesota State Fire Marshal.

Scam reported

A county resident received a phone call on Aug. 19 from who she thought was her bank. She was ordered to deposit a large sum of money into a Bitcoin machine in Fargo. Later, she contacted authorities who were unable to determine who the suspects were.

Authorities again warn county residents to be aware of these types of scam attempts. If something seems suspicious, check with close friends or relatives or contact the county sheriff office.

One person injured in rural Perham

Sheriff deputies said one person was injured when a golf cart struck a tree near Little Pine Lake, north of Perham, on Aug. 20. The driver was not injured but a passenger sustained a leg injury and was taken to the hospital in Perham.

The accident took place at 2:45 p.m. on Red Pine Loop.

Rural Dalton house destroyed by fire

A home under construction and nearly complete was destroyed by fire on Aug. 17 northeast of Dalton, near Stalker Lake. Firefighters were called to the scene of the fire shortly before 4 p.m.

“The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived,” said a sheriff deputy. “Fire crews extinguished the flames, but unfortunately, the house was a total loss.”

A passerby called in the fire to authorities. Responding were fire crews from Dalton and Underwood. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Cause of the fire was not immediately determined.

One injured in traffic accident near Perham

One person was injured in a two-vehicle highway accident just after 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 northwest of Perham, at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 10.

A Toyota Camry and a Kenworth Semi collided. The semi was westbound and the Toyota driver intended to go east.

Ruben Dario Almonte Rodriguez, 37, St. Cloud, was the driver of the Toyota and was treated at the Perham hospital. Escaping injury was the driver of the semi, Dennis Allan Linder, 40, of Verndale.

Assisting sheriff deputies were members of the Minnesota State Highway Patrol.
