One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident on July 18 near Dead Lake, southwest of Dent. The accident took place near the intersection of Highway 35 and Downy Drive.

Sheriff deputies said the driver just had brakes installed. She believes she pushed them too hard in order to slow down for a curve in the road. This took place close to 7 p.m.

“The hard braking likely caused the vehicle to lose control,” said a sheriff deputy. “The vehicle began to skid uncontrollably around the corner.”

The vehicle went into the north ditch, went through a fence and ended up in a pasture. The driver had a minor knee injury and a child in the vehicle was not injured. The vehicle sustained only minor damage.

Minor accident near Vergas

Sheriff deputies, on July 14, reported a minor injury following a traffic accident northeast of Vergas.

A female driver, close to 5 p.m., blacked out while traveling along West Wymer Lake Road. The vehicle entered private property, struck a guard wire, multiple trees and a fence before entering a slough.

“Fortunately, the vehicle was not submerged in the slough,” said a deputy. “When we arrived the driver was out of the vehicle and near the roadway.”

The victim was later checked out by medical personnel.

Woman arrested for assault and DUI

A female resident of eastern Otter Tail County was arrested close to 7 p.m. on July 15 following assault of family members and driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to sheriff deputies, the husband of the person arrested called authorities and said the woman was heading down Highway 73 in southeastern Otter Tail County, near Wrightstown, where she was arrested.

She was taken to the county jail in Fergus Falls where she was later expected to be charged and appear in county court.
